Abstract

This study was intended to contribute to the understanding of the significance of the media in Zambia in the furtherance of good governance and peace in the country. Insufficient existent research on the subject matter motivated this research. This paper asserts that on the whole the media does assist in theĀ  promotion of good governance and has not had any negative influence on peace in Zambia. However, certain unfavourable legal and political factors, combined with occasional partisan tendencies in the media, at times thwart the effectiveness of the media in encouraging good governance. Strengthening media laws and policies as well as curbing media partiality would thus substantially enhance the role of the media in promoting good governance and peace in the country.
