Modeling of Aerosol Transport and Deposition in the Human Respiratory Tract: A Mesoscopic Approach
SK Asiedu-Addo
Abstract
A dynamical model of respiratory deposition is developed using a mesoscopic
approach, which is based on a stochastic description defined by a discrete master
equation. The model simulates detailed lung deposition along all generations of the
human respiratory tract by solving numerically the convection-diffusion equation
with an adsorption and coagulation terms. This continuity equation is solved in onedimensional using a finite difference method. To describe the respiratory tract
geometry, the classical Weibel's morphometric model is used. The simulation
results show that the model compares well with the existing models and have fewer
parameters.
