Author Guidelines
Types of Contributions
The Ghana Mining Journal (GMJ) is a publication which focuses on the exchange of ideas, dissemination of information and promotion of knowledge arising out of research pertinent to the effective and sustainable exploitation of mineral resources in Ghana and elsewhere.
Original contributions in the following broad areas are suitable for publication in the Ghana Mining Journal:
Geology and Mineral Exploration, Mining, Quarrying, Geomechanics, Groundwater Studies, Hydrocarbon Development, Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Material Science, Mineral Management Policies, Mineral Economics, Environmental Aspects, Computer Applications and Mining Education.
Papers published in this journal are refereed by experts in the subject area. It is understood that papers submitted to the Ghana Mining Journal have not been previously published. A paper may be rejected.
Format for Manuscript Preparation
Manuscripts should be submitted in triplicate, double-spaced typed on A4 paper. The paper should have a concise title, name(s) of author(s), an abstract (not exceeding 300 words), the main text (divided by headings and subheadings), acknowledgement (where necessary) and references. The text should be paginated from 1 onwards including the title/abstract page.
Tables and illustrations must be numbered consecutively. All illustrations and photographs must be in colour and labelled as figures (eg. Fig. 1). Photographs should be sharp and processed within 800 dpi and 1200 dpi in JPEG or Window metafile. Maps, sketches, etc should include a metric bar scale. Captions to illustrations should be supplied on a separate sheet. SI units should be used throughout the text. Footnotes to the text should be avoided. All equations should be numbered and symbols clearly defined.
References should be given for books, journal articles and patents as follows:

Authors will be expected to supply both soft and hard copies of their revised papers as an editable MS WORD DOCUMENT (12pt Times New Roman). Each author should also provide a brief profile
indicating qualifications and profession (see sample below) and two recent colour passport photographs (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm). Authors will proof-read their papers before publishing; however, no new material may be inserted in the text at the time of proofreading without the prior consent of the Editor-in-Chief.
All joint papers must indicate the name and full postal address of the author to whom correspondence including proofs should be directed.
Subscriptions: Rate for 2009 (postage and package inclusive): Gh¢15 or US$10 (elsewhere)
Advertisements: Relevant equipment, consultancy services and publication notices may be advertised in the Ghana Mining Journal at the following rates:

Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- The submission file is in Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
- Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
- The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
- If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
