Author Guidelines

The International Journal of Humanistic Studies invites submissions of research-based studies addressing current issues in the area of Humanistic Studies. Manuscripts should be between 6000 and 9000 words. The article must have a clear, crisp and concise title. Manuscripts are refereed anonymously; therefore, the author’s name, e-mail address, and brief contributor information (not exceeding fifty words) should appear on the title page only. All pages must be numbered. The Journal prefers submissions sent as an e-mail attachment editoruniswaijhs@yahoo.com in Microsoft Word. If sending a submission by mail, please include a copy of the article on disk. Those sent by mail will not be returned. Authors of papers accepted for publication will be asked to submit the final version of their paper both in hard copy and on disk to facilitate the computerized typesetting process.

REFERENCES
1. Citations within the text should follow the author-date standard: either "In their recent work (Eagleton & Bassey, 1988)..." or "Recently Eagleton & Bassey (1988)...". If more than three authors are listed, cite all the names on the first occurrence and on subsequent occurrences use the first author's name plus et al. Use an ampersand rather than "and" between the last two authors. If there is more than one publication by the same author in the same year, distinguish by adding a, b, c etc. to both the text citation and the list of references (e.g. "Shaw 1988a").

2. Complete bibliographic references to the citations should be provided in alphabetical order at the end of the essay in a section entitled "References”. They should be complete in all details, including article, book and journal titles in full. Use full names where possible.

3. The only items that should appear in the "References" section are those actually cited in the body of the text. References not cited in the text will be removed from the reference list.

4. Include an abstract of not more than 150 words.

IJHS does not consider manuscripts that are under review elsewhere or that have been previously published.

Proofs will be sent to authors by e-mail. They must be corrected and returned to the Editor within three days. Major alterations to the text will not be accepted. Authors are urged to send minor corrections, citing page and line number—or the entire corrected article by e-mail.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
