Parenthood and child neglect in modern African countries in Amma Darko’s <i>The housemaid (1998)</i> and <i>Faceless (2003)</i>

Abstract

This paper is a critical analysis of Amma Darko’s novels: The Housemaid (1998) and Faceless (2003). It delves  into the life of poor rural children dwelling in the town seeking for good opportunities to cross examine and  analyse parenthood in African modern societies. By so doing, in the one hand, I question the role of parents in  present modern African societies. On the other hand, I interrogate myself about the place and importance of children in these societies. In this paper, arguing from sociocritism, I investigate the real cause of child neglect in African modern societies. Hence, I argue for redefinition of parenthood in the African societies.
