Abstract

Since several decades, Lomé, like others big ouest-african towns, becomes the site of a spectacular demographic development. The city has widely expanded and the newcomers constructed their houses in marginal zones without planning. Several districts have been installed in flooding areas.
This work allow, first, to analyze the relationship between rains and floods, to monitor the evolution and the impact of the climate on the vulnerability of the population, and then, to show the risks provided by coastal erosion responsible for actual littoral zone geomorphologic pattern. The result of this work constitutes an excellent tool for helping the decisions makers for the assessment and the management of the flood risks in Lomé.

Keywords: Lomé, flooding, pluviometry, littoral, coastal erosion, climatic refugee.
