Management of Open Fractures

Abstract

This paper reviews the management of open fracture. The challenges of management are highlighted. The imperatives of optimum treatment which involves appropriate initial assessment and resuscitation; administration of broad spectrum antibiotics, anti-tetanus prophylaxis and analgesics. Followed by specific evaluations, urgent operative debridement and skeletal stabilization. Early soft tissue coverage, delayed bone graft and rehabilitation are discussed.
