Author Guidelines
The editors welcome articles in English by philosophers from any country. Articles should be relevant to the analytic tradition in philosophy, understood broadly and including critiques of that tradition. All submissions are independently refereed. In most cases, decisions are based on reports from at least two referees. Final editorial decisions are made by the Editorial Board of Philosophical Papers.
Submission of original articles
Manuscripts should be double-spaced with suitably wide margins, typed on one side of the paper. Notes and references should appear at the end of the paper. Contributors must send two hard copies and one copy on a new 3.5-inch PC-formatted floppy disk clearly labeled with the author's name and paper title, saved as a Word or Word Perfect document (PC or Mac).
Authors are also asked to include an abstract of no more than 150 words. Articles prepared for blind review will be blind reviewed. Manuscripts will not be returned.
We aim to give authors a response within three months of receipt of the manuscript. As all correspondence will be carried out electronically, authors are requested to include a current e-mail address with their submissions.
Submission of critical notices
Philosophical Papers welcomes critical notices of recent philosophical works. Unless invited, critical notices are treated as original articles. We prefer critical notices to be less than 5000 words in length.
Special issues
Special topic-based issues of Philosophical Papers will appear no more than once a year. These are normally guest edited, and include a combination of invited and submitted papers. We welcome suggested topics for future special issues.
Book Reviews
Philosophical Papers publishes a small number of book reviews in the March and July issues (as of March 2004). Potential reviewers should contact the Editor in the first instance.
All manuscripts should be sent to:
