Clinico-biological and endoscopic aspects of anorectal lesions in HIV-infected patients in Kinshasa
Abstract
Context and objective. Anorectal lesions (ARLs) in patients living with HIV (PLHIV) are poorly documented. The aim of the present study was to describe the clinico-biological and endoscopic profiles of ARLs in PLHIV. Methods. This was a consecutive, descriptive series of PVV cases with at least one proctological complaint at the Kinshasa university hospital and the Centre Amo-Congo. Parameters of interest included clinical, biological and endoscopic LAR data. Results. A total of 168 PVVs were examined. Mean age was 45.2±9.1 years (20 to 71 years), with a female preponderance of 74% (n=124). Of the 71.4% (n=120) of PLWH with ARL, 4% (n=5) were in stage I, 13% (n=15) in stage II, 67% (n=80) in stage III and 17% (n=20) in WHO stage IV. The preeminent LARs were hemorrhoidal disease 60.3% (n=73) and anal fissure 24.2% (n=29). Conclusion. LARs are common and should be systematically investigated in PVV, for early diagnosis and appropriate management.
