Use of the Internet by Students in Nigerian Universities: A Case Study of Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nigeria

Abstract

This study examined the use of internet resource by students of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nigeria. The survey technique was used for this study because it involved a large number of people. The studied population was students of the Federal University of Technology, Minna Nigeria. One thousand five hundred out of the 15,000 students of the university were sampled during the 2006/2007 academic session for study, using stratified random sampling. The result showed that the students made use of internet resources such as World Wide Web (www), Electronic mail (E-mail) and Discussion Groups (DG). The most common way of locating information for leaning according to the students, is the E-mail. Based on findings from this study, it was recommended that the University authority and government should make access to internet readily available, by encouraging private sector involvement and provision of broadband internet access.
