Challenges Towards Sustainable Peace and Security: in the Democratic Republic of Congo
Abstract
This article analyses the structural challenges facing the new government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in its reconstruction and development programme for sustainable peace and security. It takes into account the DRC's strategic importance in the Central and Southern African region and the African continent, as well as the present and future interests of its neighbours. The DRC has reached several agreements with its neighbours – Rwanda, Uganda and Angola – regarding this issue, but the question remains; will these relations guarantee the achievement of peace and security in the country?
