Abstract

Transfer and diffusion of efficient farming practices and technology that enhance agricultural productivity will be instrumental to achieving economic growth and nutrition security and poverty alleviation. This study focuses on establishment of short cut to snail production and possible transfer to the farmers and non-farmers within urban and rural households. Most households indicated possibility for adoption of the technology. This will enable them to produce snail both for income and improvement of household nutrition. Also, it will enhance the nutritional status of the pregnant and nursing mothers. Therefore government and non-governmental organization working on improvement of agricultural production should consider not only the financial status of potential adopters but also relate the importance of snail farming to health for fast adoption. Extension agents should also facilitate the transfer of this technology to both rural and urban households to ensure sustainable income and nutrition security.
