Abstract

This Paper centres on the factors influencing the adoption of white egg shelled layers among poultry farmers in Ogun State, Nigeria. It relied on the primary data collected from 96 randomly selected poultry farmers from five local government areas of Ogun state, Nigeria. The analytical techniques used are descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The study revealed that even though all the farmers sampled are aware of white egg shelled layers, about 53 percent of them kept white egg shelled layers on their farms. Among the hypothesized determinants of adoption of white egg shelled layers, farming experience, farm size, extension access, battery cage rearing method and automated rearing technology positively affect its adoption. On the other hand, the age of the farmer and rural location of farms negatively influenced the adoption of white egg shelled layers' adoption. Among others, it was recommended that extension should be re-invigorated while at the same time modernizing poultry production.
