Abstract

Women play crucial roles in African agriculture by providing a large proportion of family labour resources in crop and livestock production. Women's involvement in agricultural activities varies within family size and customary practices in the neighbourhood. Therefore, this study was carried out to identify livestock activities of Yoruba and Fulani Rural Women in Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo-State. The study was able to find out that majority of Yoruba and Fulani rural women in the study area are young, had no formal education, not the only wife of their husbands and had settled in the study area for more than six years. The livestock activities that they were involved include rearing of cattle, goat, sheep, guinea fowl, chicken, duck, pig and the production of fresh and processed milk. They are engaged in these livestock activities in other to generate income and provide food for their household consumption. They were faced with the following constraints, credit, extension services, land, feed and vaccine. It was therefore recommended that extension services to rural women should be improved and extension messages should be gender and location specific.
