Abstract

This study was undertaken to establish the socio-economic characteristics of retailers of frozen fish in Ibadan. It attempted to estimate cost of performing the function of retailing frozen fish and determine the factors affecting the profitability of the business. Using data collected from markets that were selected purposively, a total of 50 respondents were sampled. Average daily profit was N1, 301. The cost of fish was identified to be the major constituent of the cost of sales as it constituted 98.8% of the total cost. From the study it was observed that the business was 100% dominated by women. Frozen fish retailing is a profitable enterprise and the higher the level of investment the higher the profit.
