Coaching diversity in South Africa
Abstract
The article raises the need for a better understanding of the unique problems facing sport coaches in Africa. Sport coaches in Africa and in particular South Africa, are facing challenges arising from diversity arising from constitutional issues. The coach in Africa cannot always coach in the lines of their western counterparts because of the lack of infrastructure, technology and financial support. There are certain dimensions in sport that should be taken into consideration while building a nation and forming athletes and players in a coaching environment. Coaches should therefore apply an own unique approach which is applicable and suited for the African environment.Key words: Sport, coaching diversity, management, race, constitutional requirements, equity, gender, player, athlete development.
