Neuroendoscopy in children

Abstract

Background: The emergence of endoscopy as a neurosurgical tool in recent years has changed the surgical management of many intracranial conditions. Patients and Methods A prospective series of endoscopic operations in children with neurosurgical conditions at Red Cross Childrens Hospital.
Results: Endoscopy for 237 procedures, including third ventriculostomy, tumour biopsy, fenestration procedures and a variety of other indications are reported.
Conclusion: The indications for endoscopy, limitations of the procedures, operative strategies and results are discussed. Endoscopy is a valuable addition to the options available for managing varios intracranial pathologies.
