Predictors Of Commercial Sex Workers Attitude Towards Condom Use In Lagos And Ibadan, Nigeria

Abstract



This study examines the attitude of Commercial Sex Workers towards Condom Use and factors predicting such attitude. One hundred and twenty CSW's resident in 8 different Brothels in Lagos and Ibadan responded to questionnaire on Attitude towards condom use and Desire for maximum financial gain. Factors predicting attitude includes, age (16-46), older age was associated with inconsistent condom use t(118)=6.28, P<.01 education and number of dependants predicts CSW's attitude G(1,112)=4.80,P<.5 while desire for financial gain significantly predicts t(95)=3.74, p<.01. Therefore, packaging HIV/AIDS behavioural changes programme among commercial sex workers particularly with regards to condom use, emphasises should be made on the need for the acquisition of good decision making skills and personal level empowerment through developing sex workers condom negotiation skill.
