Abstract

The objective was to evaluate the administrative style of secondary school principals in relation to teachers’ job performance in Cross River State, Nigeria. A total of four hundred (400) teachers and one thousand two hundred (1200) students were randomly sampled for the study, using Ex-post facto research design with standard questionnaires for data collection. The results showed that the leadership and motivational behaviour of the principal significantly affected the job performance of his teachers in terms of lesson note preparation, supervision of co-curricular activities, classroom teaching, students discipline and use of teaching aids. It is recommended that Principals should share their administrative responsibilities with their staff by delegating certain functions to them.
