The Place of Recreation in the (6-3-3-4) Educational System in Nigeria

Abstract

The current 6-3-3-4 system of education is the most concrete demonstration towards improving the quality of education and particularly, recreation in Nigeria. The awareness that recreation provides a wide variety of activities to meet the needs and interests of the entire population has gradually increased in our educational system. This paper highlight the effective ways of planning recreation in the four tiers of education system to ensure that pupils/students spend their leisure hours during and after schools wisely and constructively. To this end, professionals should carry out campaigns through seminars, workshops and symposia on the concept, scope and importance of recreation while educational planners should work together to provide the needed recreational facilities in the school system. Appropriate recommendations were made as to improving recreational facilities in the educational system in Nigeria.
