Abstract

Forty five (45) samples of local poultry feed ingredients were collected from three different depots in Kaduna metropolis, Northwestern, Nigeria. Feed raw materials, such as Fish Meal (FM), Soya Beans Meal (SBM), Groundnut Cake (GNC), Palm kernel Cake (PKC) and Brewer Dried Grain (BDG) were sampled at the depots. These were subjected to mycological examination. Four genera of fungi isolated were Aspergillus, Rhizopus, Mucor and Penicillium. The highest mycoflora count (19.3 x 103) was obtained from Add-more feeds depot, followed by Al-Mahmud Feeds depot (10.0 x 103), while the least counts of (5.7 x 103) were from Feed xtra depot. Rhizopus sp was more predominant of all the species. The difference in the mould counts from the different depots was found to be as a result of differences in their storage and processing methods.
