Abstract

Spontaneous bile duct perforation is a very rare but important cause of surgical jaundice in pediatric patients and one of the most common causes of surgical jaundice during infancy after biliary atresia. Preoperative diagnosis may not be possible in most of the cases. The exact cause of the perforation remains unclear. The diagnosis is usually made at the time of laparotomy. We report a case of spontaneous bile duct perforation in an infant and showed the successful minimal surgical intervention with T-tube insertion as the sole management.
