Abstract

In order to contribute to the sustainable development of the low valley of the River Mono in the district of Athiémé, a study has been carried out in the flooded plain of Agbobada with the view of identifying their  potentialities and constraints to achieve this, the adopted methodology has consisted in the setting up an experimental device made up of  piezometers and limnimetric scales for the measurement of hydrologic parameters. Through three pedological holes the soil has been studied and the agronomic following up has been done through maize crop. The socio-economic characteristics have been realized through a social and  anthropological investigation. The results have revealed that the flood starts in the months of June and July and lasts for an average of four months. The hydraulic functioning of the river Mono with the influences of the hydro-electricity dam of Nangbeto has direct impacts upon the dynamism of the water table that is also linked to the spatial and temporal disparities of the rate of rainfall. The physical and chemical analysis of the
ground proves that it is rich in organic matter and is suitable for rice  growing, for market gardening, for the cultivation of maize and for fish farming. A proposed management plan consists in the setting up of semi-circles in the depression, in the digging wells for irrigation and in the installments of fish holes.
