Pott’s disease: A case report

Abstract

Background: Tuberculous spondylitis or Pott’s disease is a chronic granulomatous, extra-pulmonary infection of the spine by mycobacterium tuberculosis. Sites of predilection is thoraco-lumbar regions of the spine.
Case: We present a case of tuberculous spondylitis with complications of bony caseation and abscess formation leading to myelopathy or radiculopathy with attendant neurologic deficit. Our patient was managed chemotherapeutically with a good outcome.
Conclusion: Pott’s disease is a tuberculous spondylitis which is readily demonstrated radiologically and responds to chemotherapeutic agents as shown in the case presented
