Abstract

Spelling presents a linguistic puzzle in terms of language acquisition. Verbal categories are components that facilitate verb variation. Verbal writing is conditioned by the various inflections a verb can take. The verb gives meaning to a statement and describes an action performed by an actor. It is therefore the core of the sentence and provides perspective to the phrasal unit. This article analyzes the verb inflection used by schoolchildren in their written work. The constructions produced by the learners are riddled with errors that we call verbal orthotheses. A verbal orthothesis is the omission of a consonant in the structure of a verb. The use of verb inflection in these schoolchildren's work suggests a revision of conjugation instruction, particularly regarding endings learned by rote. This article aims to review the verbal manipulations carried out by the learners.
