The intersection of Chinese and African theology and missiology: Paths for the African church to engage the Chinese in Africa

Abstract

Increased Chinese investments and economic enterprises in the past decade have brought many Chinese migrant workers and companies to the African continent. An opportunity exists for African Christians to engage Chinese workers who are unbelievers. The African and Chinese worldviews overlap in many areas of spiritual and sociocultural concerns, so Africans, particularly those with Pentecostal-Charismatic sensibilities, are well-placed to engage Chinese Christians in theology and reach unbelieving Chinese immigrants. This article will discuss such areas of overlap and explore them as theological and missiological bridges for the African Church to engage the Chinese whom God has brought to the continent, and to advance partnerships in the Global South between African and Chinese Christians.
