Seasonal variation of physico-chemical characteristics of Kwanar Farakwai Reservoir Igabi, Kaduna State

Abstract

Physico-Chemical characteristics of water in Kwanar Farakwai reservoir Igabi, Nigeria was conducted from July 2019 to June 2020 The Physico-Chemical characteristics of Kwanar farakwai reservoir were determined using Hanna measuring instrument; Water temperature, water transparency, pH of water, total dissolved solids (TDS), electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen (DO) and biological oxygen demand, Nitrate, phosphate were determined. The mean ranges of physico-chemical characteristics of the water body were: temperature 18.62-26.70°C; dissolved oxygen 2.91-3.01ml; biological demand oxygen (BOD) 0.21-0.30; electrical conductivity (EC)91.33
180µS/cm; Nitrate0.21-0.30; sulphate 0.14-0.87 and total dissolved solids 67.58-75.42 mg/L; pH 8.38-8.71 the value is within the accepted range that can support aquatic life including fish.
