Hydrogeological study of part of Uselu community, Egor Local Government Area, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria

Abstract

Five borehole cuttings were gotten from five residential (private) houses in Uselu community. The study area is located within Latitudes N06°22’N to 06°28’Nand Longitudes 5°36’E to 5°37’E in the Benin flank, which forms part of the Anambra Basin (Western extreme of the Anambra Basin). The study was carried out to determine the likely borehole depths, the flow direction and drainage pattern
in part of Uselu and environs using the cutting samples to reconstruct the lithologies. From the study, the lithologies were laterite, sandy clay, clayey sand, fine grained sand and coarse-grained sand which is indicative of the Benin Formation. The depth of the borehole ranged from 60m to 70.1m. Based on the drainage of the study area and from the values of the static water level contour map on the topographical map of the study area, the drainage is dendritic with the flow direction towards the south eastern area,
towards the direction of the main river body (Ikpoba river) in Edo State, Nigeria.
