Abstract

The non-homogeneity effect of the sex factor in the manpower population is examined under Markovian model. A new approach in testing for the existence of non-homogeneity in the manpower population was introduced.  The non-homogeneity of the sex factor was introduced by disaggregating sex of the manpower population into two homogeneous groups; the male and female. The transition probability matrix of the disaggregated and aggregated staff flow were estimated using the maximum likelihood approach. A test to determine the presence of non-homogeneity in the sex (male and female) factor was done, and the result indicates that there is heterogeneity within the sex factor of the manpower population. The expected length of stay of staff and its variance, in the manpower system of the disaggregated and aggregated population were, respectively examined. The results of the expected length of stay shows that the male group has the tendency of staying longer in most of the grade than the female group. The probabilities of new intakes from the homogeneous groups moving from a grade of entry to higher grade were also determined, and the results show that the male homogeneous group have greater probabilities of moving from a grade of entry to higher grade than the female homogeneous group.
