Synthesis of 4-(2-Methyl-1H-5-Imidazolyl)benzoyl Amino Acids and Peptides as Possible Anthelmintic Agents

R Dahiya

Abstract

The present investigation describes the synthesis of a novel series of methylimidazolopeptides via interaction of 2-methylimidazole with diazotized p-aminobenzoic acid in the presence of aqueous cupric chloride, using diisopropylcarbodiimide as a coupling agent and N-methylmorpholine as a base. Characterization of all the
newly synthesized compounds was done by elemental as well as spectral analysis. All the synthesized imidazole derivatives were screened for their anthelmintic activity and some of the compounds 1iv, 1v, 1viii and their hydrolyzed analogues 1x, and 1xii exhibited higher bioactivity against three earthworm species, namely, Megascoplex konkanensis, Pontoscotex corethruses and Eudrilus eugeniea at dose of 2 mg/ml.
