Awareness of predisposing factors of uterine fibroids among females in Oyo State: implications for social workers

Abstract

This study investigated the awareness of predisposing factors of uterine fibroids among females in Oyo State considering variables such as age, educational status and marital status. The descriptive survey was adopted for this study. The sample consisted of Eight hundred females who were selected using purposive and simple random techniques. A questionnaire tagged: Awareness of Predisposing Factors of Fibroid Questionnaire was used to collect data. The psychometric properties of instrument was established. The data collected were analyzed using t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistical tools at 0.05 alpha level. The results showed that females do not have adequate awareness of the predisposing factors of uterine fibroids. It was obtained that age, educational status and marital status of the respondents had no significant difference on the awareness of the predisposing factors of uterine fibroids. It was concluded that health workers should educate females on the predisposing factors of uterine fibroids.
