To what extent does time allocated to writing affect the teaching and learning of writing?

Wezi Rebecca Manning

Abstract

In academia, it is generally believed that the acquisition of a language is largely dependent through direct or indirect learning of the four modalities; speaking, listening, reading and writing. The writing skill is primarily essential in the facilitation of teaching and learning. In the teaching environment, most educators do not focus on emphasizing and reinforcing the writing skill in the learners as this invariably leads to time consuming marking and administrative work. This article aims to focus attention on the problem of giving less time for writing activities for learners.
