Gender disequilibrium as a bane on political and administrative development: Nigerian perspectives

Abstract

Years after the Beijing World Conference of 1995 on women liberation, the seemingly excluded gender (women) is still not seen to be occupying its necessary position in our socio-political environment. Though, every nation endeavours to strike a balance between sexes in terms of access to opportunities, resources and political/administrative offices; the female gender is still being so marginalized. However, politics all over the world has become a big game and a business for the bold-strong regardless of gender selection. This paper aims to discuss the relevance of women in administration and politics of Nigeria. Descriptive and analytical methods are employee obtain to data quantitatively. Feminist theory of gender inequality especially the liberal feminist theory is employed to explain gender inequality better. The discourse takes cognizance of non-implementation of 35% affirmation action on women inclusiveness both in administration and in political affairs’ in Nigeria. The paper considers women have important ingredients of the political and economic development of Nigeria, hence, the need for gender equilibrium. It them recommends among other, that there is need to imbibe the culture of gender training. The paper concludes that political and administrative development requires a collaborative effort of the both sexes in Nigeria.
