Assessment of female plantain marketers information needs in Edo State, Nigeria

Abstract

The study examined the information needs of female plantain marketers in Edo State Nigeria. Multistage random sampling technique was used to select one hundred and eighty respondents in three agro- ecological zones of the State. Primary data collected were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics. Identified sources of information were radio, television, internet, phone, neighbors, friends, farmer group, unions and ministry of agriculture. The result indicated that farmer information needs were high in plantain processing, packaging, grading and artificial ripening of plantain. A significant relationship was observed between female plantain marketers and their personal characteristics.
