Special Projects and the Dilemma of the Nigerian Print Media

Eno Akpabio

Abstract

The paper examines special projects in Nigerian newspapers and magazines from the conception of project ideas to execution. It contends that organizational culture that fosters improvement in profitability is the centerpiece of the induction given to special project staff. This has made the venture very profitable but at huge costs. News commercialization, which has the tendency to marginalize non-participants while painting participants in colours that have no relevance to reality, is the order of the day. This subtracts from the credibility and influence of these publications.
