Dealing with difficult library clients- perspectives from Nigerian librarians.

Abstract

This work examined difficult client situations in Federal Government funded Libraries in Nigerian. 124 librarians working in 24 federal government funded libraries in Nigeria participated in the study. Random sampling was used to select libraries that part icipated in the library. Questionnaire was used for data gathering. The questionnaire was analyzed using mean. ANOVA was used to test t hree hypothesis postulated for the study at 0.05 level of significance. Findings from the study revealed that there is no significant difference in the situations that give rise to difficult client situations, way of avoiding it and ways of handling it in case it arises in different types of libraries in Nigeria. The study recommended that there should be a periodic training on customer care service for all library staff and list of services to be paid for should be displayed conspicuously in libraries amongst others.
