Challenges of using web 2.0 tools among university librarians in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria

Abstract

The study investigated the challenges faced by librarian when using web 2.0 tools. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study included 170 librarians from 13 selected universities libraries in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Total enumeration of the population was employed. Data was collected using questionnaire. Out of the 170 questionnaires administered, 159 were retrieved to produce a response rate of 74.2%. Research question was answered using descriptive statistics, inadequate time, number of library policy and it use were the major challenges facing librarian with regards to the use of web 2.0 tools. Others are lack of computer literacy, unavailability of computer and internet facilities lack of technical knowledge on the use of web 2.0. it also reveal that facebook, youtube, twitter, instant messaging were the frequently use web 2.0 tools. Based on the findings, it was recommended that university management should make funds available towards in-service training programme to train librarian on the use of web 2.0 tools so as to render effective library service
