Impact of conference attendance on librarians’ leadership development: the Federal University of Technology, Owerri and Imo State University Owerri, Nigeria

Abstract

The paper examined the impact of conference attendance on leadershipdevelopment of librarians in Federal University of Technology Owerri and Imo State University Owerri, both in Imo State. Data was obtained through questionnaire administered to 58 respondents from the two Institutions under study. Leadership development variables were categorized. Forty(40) respondents out of the fifty eight (58) respondents attended conferences while 18 returned no to conference attendance. Using the SPSS to run the analysis, the P. Value is 0.005 which is significant atα= 0.05 level, since P.Value is <α. Further test also done using Cramer’s V to test for the strength or extent of impact of conference attendance to leadership developments hows approximately 0.370.m Conference attendance was highly recommended as a means of enhancing leadership development of academic librarians.
