Abstract

This study investigated the impact of information and Communication Technology  (ICT) on Information Dissemination in selected libraries of Federal Universities in  South-South Nigeria. Survey method was adopted as the research design. The  population consists of 83 librarians from the three university libraries used for the  study. The entire population was used. Data collected were analyzed using mean  statistics. The result of the findings revealed that the libraries have ICT facilities. It also revealed that ICT has impacted a lot in the activities of libraries, in the area of reference services, current awareness, bibliographic search, cataloguing and  classification and lending services. The study also revealed that inadequate  computer facilities in the library, inadequate internet facilities, low level of ICT skills by the librarians, lack of ICT policy among others are the constraints to the use of ICTs in the university libraries. Consequently, it was recommended that, the government, the management of tertiary institutions and other education  stakeholders should be encouraged to take the provision of adequate ICT facilities in all academic librarians in Nigeria as a policy matter. Provision of alternative sources of power for the use of equipment and other peripherals for ICT utilization should be given priority in the libraries.
