The Need For Information Technology In Nigerian Polytechnic Libraries

Abstract



The study examines the need for information technology in Nigerian polytechnic libraries. The concept was defined and various information technologies enumerated and discussed. This include: the computer C-DROM database, the internet, telefascimile (Fax machine system) electro coping, world-wide web (WWW) electronic mail (E-mail). The data for the study was collected by means of structured questionnaire administered to respondents. The analysis of the results also highlighted the problem of using information technology in polytechnic libraries and thereafter stated the needs for its utilization in the polytechnic libraries. Some of the needs are: speedy and easy access to use. Elimination of some repetitive work, and it increases efficiency etc. The paper concludes that the polytechnic authorities should make fund available for adequate acquisition and installation of information technology equipment in polytechnic libraries and ensure its effective utilization.
