Utilization of academic library by lecturers and students for research productivity: A survey of Delta State University, Abraka -Nigeria

Abstract

This study examine d the importance of Academic library as it enhances lecturers’ and students’ research productivities in the university community. The main instrument used in collecting data for this study was the questionnaire. From the target population of about 300 lecturers and 15000 students, simple random sampling technique was used to sample 180 respondents. Descriptive statistic involving the use of percentage was used to analyze the re search questions while chi-square statistic was employed to test the research hypotheses in the study at 0.05 level of significance. The study shows that students often use library resources more than lecturers. However, the majority of the respondents af firmed that the present level of books, journals and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities are grossly inadequate which discourage research efforts. Arising from the findings, recommendations on how to improve the University library for effective research activities were made.
