An assessment of the relationship between indigenous information channels and rural communication development: The example of Okuku community in Nigeria

Abstract

The study investigated the relationship between indigenous information channels and rural communication development in Okuku community in Nigeria. It sought to find out the extent to which indigenous information channels correlate to rural community development. The research design is a correlation survey. A total of 227 respondents were purposively chosen for this study hence all the development workers were involved. Questionnaire was the instrument used in data collection. The five research questions were analysed with the use of Pearson correlation to establish the relationships. The finding showed that there is a high and positive relationship between indigenous information channels and rural communication development hence the indigen ous information channels can be used for effective development communication process.
