An evaluation of Oyo state library board in meeting the information needs of secondary school students in some selected secondary schools in Ibadan, Nigeria

Abstract

The study is aimed at promoting the utilization and effectiveness of public library in Ibadan by secondary school students to enhance their academic perfor mance and exposure to international events. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. Questi onnaire was the main instrument for data collection, other instruments used include, interviews and observations. Both statistical and con capture procedures were used to analyse the data collected. The results revealed that Oyo state Library Board is not able to perform its functions basically due to lack of awareness, shortage of fund and library personnel (professional and para -professional). Solutions to these problems exist and as such, Oyo State Library Board should be given adequate attention by the Oyo State Government to enable it meet the various i nformation needs of Secondary School Students in Ibadan and Oyo state.
