Mobile communications technology: The singular factor responsible for internet usage growth on the African continent

Abstract

This paper investigated the factors responsible for the growth of Internet usage on the African continent. The principal finding was that increasing growth of Internet usage is also down to one singular factor: mobile communications technology. The proliferation of mobile phone usage in Africa has resulted in the sustained rise in Internet usage  recently in Africa. Generally, accessing the Internet using a cellular phone involves  little effort in terms of in situ huge infrastructure, many mobile phone subscribers thus use the cellular phone to access the Internet in order not to be left out of the fun the  Internet offers.
