Utilization of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for academic achievements among undergraduate science students in Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto

Abstract

This paper explored the utilization and effects of Information Communication Technologies (ICT) on academic performance among undergraduate science students of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. A survey research design was used for this study,questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection; a stratified sampling method was adopted, 325 questionnaireS was administered to respondents. Simple percentages and tables were used for the analysis of the data. Hence, majority of the students used internet and smart phones as ICT in its totality. Other ICT components are widely underutilized by majority of the science students especially for academic purposes. Recommendations were made based on the findings that include among others; the need for University management to organise ICT-based seminars for both students and academic staff which will assist in fashioned out their lectures, assignments and examinations towards ICT based programs. Enhance facilitation of ICT programme for science students to improve their utilization and performance for effective learning process.
