Abstract

The study investigated the effect of information literacy programme on educational development among undergraduate students in universities in Kano State. The study was guided by three specific objectives. The study adopted descriptive research design. The population for the study was 43,063 undergraduate students across universities in Kano State. Proportionate stratified sampling technique was used to select 745 sample size. A self-designed closed ended structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Mean and standard deviation were used for data analysis. Findings from the study revealed that only two information literacy programmes are been taught in the universities surveyed. The study revealed that information literacy programmes have affected the respondents in the studied universities by increasing their ability to recognise a need for information among others; it also revealed that insufficient time allocation for information literacy programme is among the challenges of information literacy programme. Organizing regular workshop and seminars were recommended.
