Skills on students’ utilization of library resources and services in Tertiary Institutions in Owerri, Nigeria

Abstract

The study examined influence of information literacy skills on utilization of library resources and services by students of tertiary institution in Owerri, Imo State. The population of the study comprised of ten thousand, eight hundred and eighteen (10,818) registered students of  the institutions surveyed. The sample of the study 2,162 was derived using proportionate sampling technique. The instrument used for data collection was structured questionnaire. The reliability index of the instrument was found to be 0.81 using Pearson Product Moment Correlation coefficient. Data collected were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, the results showed that students in tertiary possess high level of information literacy skills and the students’ level of information literacy skills influences their use of print resources, audio-visual resources, electronic information resources and library services.
