Influence of utilization of ICT services and health professionals’ work productivity in University of Calabar Teaching Hospital Calabar, Cross River State

Abstract

The study determined the influence of utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services and health professionals’ work productivity in university of Calabar teaching hospital Calabar, Cross River State. To achieve the purpose of the study, two research questions and two hypotheses were posed to guide the study. Literature was reviewed in line with the variables under study. Survey research design was adopted. The population comprised of 390 with a sample of 195 of the entire population of health professionals representing 50 percent of the population drawn for the study. Purposive and Accidental sampling approach was used for the study. The instrument titled “Utilization of Information and Communication Technology Services and Health Professionals’ Work Productivity Questionnaire” (UICTSHPWPQ)was validated by experts and the data analysed using one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Independent t-test. All the hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed a significant influence of utilization of ICT services on health professionals’ work productivity and utilization of ICT services significantly influence health professionals’ work productivity with regards to their gender. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended amongst others that, government and management of University  of Calabar teaching hospital should provide functional ICT services for its workforce to enable them have a conducive place for learning, research and to enhance staff efficiency and productivity in their work place.
