The nature of mind in health and disease

Celestine O. Mume

Abstract

The topographical model of the mind (according to Sigmund Freud) is well known. The collective unconscious as put forward by Carl Jang is also familiar to most people involved in the study of the mind. This work proposes that there are other levels of unconscious between the individual and the collective unconscious. In a newly proposed model of the mind, the author has suggested family, group, national and racial unconscious. Equally important is the proposal which the author has put forward to the effect that the mind exists everywhere and transcends time and space. Furthermore, the role of the unconscious in psychopathology is highlighted.
