Influence of separated homes on task performance and personality development of school children in Ondo metropolis

Abstract

The study looked into the influence of separated homes on task performance and personality development of school children in Ondo State metropolis with particular focus on the Okitipupa Local Government Area. While undertaking the study, three null hypotheses were formulated and tested. The sample for the study consisted of four hundred (400) school children randomly selected from eight public junior secondary schools in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State. The instrument employed for data collection was a self-developed questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed using both independent t-test and Pearson Product Moment Correlation statistical methods. The results were held significant at 0.05 alpha levels. The results revealed that there is significant difference between single-parenting and task performance of the school children, there is a significant difference between parental socio-economic status and task performance and there is significant relationship between school children from separated homes and task performance. It is recommended by the study the need for personal, social, group and individual counseling centres across schools to help students from separated homes in surmounting their emotional quagmires.
